Salt Lake Massage Therapy

What do you think of when you hear the word “massage”? Do you think of a relaxing time on a table in a warm room while your certified massage therapist rubs your tension away? If you live in the most populated valley in Utah you can look for Salt Lake Massage Therapy online or in the Yellow Pages. Are you having issues with tension in your neck and back or do you have shooting pains down one side of your back and legs or the other?

Depending on the kind of problem you are experiencing you may want to look at the different kinds of massage that various Salt Lake Massage Therapy practices offer to their clients. You can choose from Shiatsu massage, Swedish massage, Deep Tissue massage and cranial sacral massage. Many people think that a regular massage schedule can help one to feel relaxed throughout the week. In many cases, once you find a massage therapy practice and therapist you enjoy you can negotiate reduced rates if you are going to set up sessions on a weekly or monthly basis.

Swedish Massage is the type of massage therapy that most people are familiar with in the United States. Swedish Massage has five massage strokes that you will receive in any given session. The first stroke is called “effleurage” and is a light stroke used relax the client and warm up the muscles for deeper massage later in the session. The second stroke is called “Petrissage” and are executed mostly with the palm of your hand along with the thumb and fingers. A rolling technique is also employed with knuckles and palms to help remove toxins from the muscles like lactic acid.

The third technique is called “Tapotement”. Tapotement includes cupping, hacking, vibration and pummeling to work the muscles, remove toxins and help clear the lungs. Friction and Vibration by themselves are the fourth and fifth strokes. Friction involves heavy circular and back and forth strokes to create heat and lengthen and stretch the muscles being massaged. Vibration is an excellent tension relief stroke using the hands and fingertips to finish off the massage.

A good massage therapist will conduct an interview to determine that exact wants and needs of their client to determine which massage technique will produce the most relaxing results. Whether you live in Utah or are just visiting the Salt Lake area, you can find a deep tissue massage, or the best Swedish Massage Salt Lake has to offer by looking in the Yellow Pages or online to schedule your appointment.
